If you’ve been following our indie music social media channels for the past few years, then you may have heard of pianist Ben Hippen. Ben has an extensive background in music, but when he’s writing his own stuff he doesn’t necessarily fit into a specific indie niche. He stands out all on his own as a contemporary classical composer. Currently located in Iowa, Ben was able to catch up with us on a recent episode of Indie Music LIVE! that is aired every Tuesday night at 10 PM EDT.
Ben Hippen – Featured Artist
Ben’s history goes back to the ’80s and he was even involved in the initial Finale software and some other groundbreaking software. He was involved in coding and writing for projects that were involved in music, but he wasn’t necessarily playing and writing. After selling a company he decided that he was going to focus on his music. In the ’90s he was composing and doing film scores in Seattle and literally the rest is history. He is now doing mostly original works and boy is he busy!
Ben admits he’s an old school style arranger, so there is no specific instrumentation that he works with but he has been living in the “expanded piano pallet” sounds recently. In the summer of 2018 he’s been recording a lot and is hoping to release some more music in the Winter.
