David T. Dunn – Catch That Train – Review

David T. DunnDavid T. Dunn is a mysterious music man making rootsy Country flavored Rock and has just released a new album called Morning Man. I say he’s mysterious because there’s not much information about him online. Don’t confuse him with the other David Dunn who makes music either, it may be a bit confusing in your googling. The David T. Dunn I’m talking about “writes tunes with catchy sing along choruses and intelligent lyrics that will stick in your head” according to the little bit info available on his website. Let’s dig a little deeper…

David T. Dunn – Catch That Train

“Catch That Train” is the single that David and his crew is pushing. I wouldn’t necessarily say that David’s music is Country nor would I say it’s all rock, but I will say that lovers of both genres could easily get on board with his music. I hear all sorts of classic influences including Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and even Johnny Cash. David’s music definitely has a strong appeal to a crowd that may be a bit on the older side, but his Americana style is also making a huge comeback and has a large underground following that is comprised of many younger folk.

As far as the production quality of “Catch That Train”, I think it stands up pretty well with any other professional recording today. It sounds like it was recorded on an indie budget, but that’s not always a bad thing, just an observation. The composition itself is pretty good too. It has that live feel that is missing from much of today’s music. It’s a little loose in spots mainly on the acoustic guitar strums but not really bothersome. I respect and enjoy how the band supports David’s vocal and melodies that he is singing instead of trying to play over him. So, in my book that makes the musicianship top notch.

This is a solid release by Mr. Dunn, and I’m happy to be bringing more attention to it. I’m curious to know what YOU think about the music of David T. Dunn.
