Ghost Accuser – Review

Ghost AccuserGhost Accuser is a band based in Dublin, Ireland. Whoa, what? Yea, Dublin baby! I don’t think we’ve reviewed a band from Ireland yet but here goes. Influenced by post punk, alternative rock, new wave, and grunge, Ghost Accuser was founded by Joey McGowan in 2015. I’m excited to add Ghost Accuser to our review section. I really like this band and I’m going to tell you why by highlighting a few of their songs.

Ghost Accuser

If you’re into new wave alt rock and maybe a little soft punk in the ways of Stereolab, Sea & Cake, and maybe even My Bloody Valentine or anything remotely in their atmosphere then you’re definitely going to appreciate what Ghost Accuser is up to. I know I am! The band themselves are obviously all accomplished musicians. They also gel as a unit very well. While doing some background research on the band I was able to catch a live video and I was definitely impressed. I can see Joey’s vision and I hope he gains enough momentum and support to see it through!

When their song “Picturesque” starts out I can only compare it to one of the best Fugazi songs minus the screaming. You may have to spend some time on the Fugazi collection to understand, but I love almost everything about it. In fact, I find it hard to articulate how much I like it. So many warm sounds and feelings come over me when listening to this tune. It’s well written and well arranged as a song, and I even enjoy the indie production although some may say it’s a bit thin. I think it’s truly the post grunge sound coming through here.

“Exiles” is a noteworthy tune as well within the catalogue of this very enjoyable band. In “Exiles” we get to hear the musicianship of Ghost Accuser shine through, excellent playing all around. The arrangement is very good and if listened to in a dark room with some headphones, it may evoke some serious emotions! I truly enjoy the effects on Joey’s vocals as they totally add to the melody. Also, the artistic value of this band cannot be dismissed. They’re not just making music, they’re making art…and it’s awesome to see/hear.

“New Condition” is probably my favorite tune overall. Surprised you there, eh? “Picturesque” is super rad, but this tune is my #1. It’s very simple. I like the constant and very sparse drum programming/playing pulsing through the changes of the song. I’m not sure if this is an appropriate time to state, but I keep hearing a big David Bowie influence. I don’t know, is it just me? Maybe I’m simply a dumb American, but David Bowie keeps coming to me and I DO know music. I’m not sure, but the sound is simply classic for sure! If you listen long enough some very cool keyboard sounds start to permeate. I’m excited to see where this band goes with future recordings!

If you’re not into Ghost Accuser yet then this is your chance. If you’ve read any of my 300 odd+ reviews over the past couple of years, then you know that I don’t blow smoke up people’s arses when it comes to music. This band is exceptional especially if you’re into the spacey alt/rock side of music. I’m curious to know what YOU think about Ghost Accuser. Get in touch on social media and let me know. Also, make sure to let the band know that you heard their music here first on Indie Music Plus! As always, thank you for reading and continuing to support indie music of all genres from all over the world!
