Grant Duncan has a unique story. We’ve reviewed his music here in the past, and we were so intrigued by not only his story but his music that we just had to have him on as a featured artist. Lucky for us 10PM our time is 11AM his time. You see he’s a New Zealander, or a “kiwi” as they’re known, who is living in Tokyo, Japan.
Grant Duncan – Featured Artist
Grant relocated to Japan because he married a lady from there and they had a child. They wanted to make sure that their son had some Japanese living experience so Grant is currently making a living by playing music constantly and teaching English. I admire this dude! He has such an interesting story and I suggest you take a listen to his interview with Dave in the video below.
In the Deeper With Dave segment Grant goes into depth about what it’s like to be a musician playing in bars all over Tokyo while being a foreigner. He says that Japanese people are very responsive to his music but in a different way than you might expect in New Zealand, The UK, or even America. He says that they are intent listeners and don’t get crazy with spontaneous applause and fanfare but rather wait respectfully until the end of the tune. Interesting!
