Heather Whitney – Moving On Song – Review

Heather WhitneyHeather Whitney is a country singer/songwriter from the great big state of Texas. If you’re into authentic Country music then stay tuned! She has recently wowed fans with her song and video for “Shut Up And Dance” and she’s back with a new single called “Moving On Song.” With the right exposure, I believe Heather could explode and mature into one of the classic country female voices of our time.

Heather Whitney – Moving On Song

According to her bio, she’s from an “itty bitty, one red light town deep in the pines of Southeast Texas.” What else could you ask for with authenticity? I’m not sure if she’s had vocal lessons but her voice has a natural southern bell sound. Legends such as Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and even The Judds come to mind when listening to Heather. I don’t want to pigeon hole her with my references because I’m not necessarily a country artist authority, but I’m honestly digging on Heather.

If you’ve been paying attention to our indie website for the past 3 years you may notice that we’ve been reviewing country music more than usual lately. Well, we’re not genre specific and we haven’t been saving all the Country for now. We’re just into indie music of ALL KINDS, and there’s been a rush of this genre coming through. Heather is definitely one of the best country artists we have reviewed to date. She’s got the image to match the voice and is obviously working with the best in the business to make her brand blossom.

Ok, I have to rain on my own parade here for a second. I’m a little perplexed at the similarity between the majority of the melody of “Moving On Song” and Garth Brooks’ “I’ve Got Friends In Low Places.” In fact, when I initially listened to the song I thought it was a cover of that tune. Of course I realized when the chorus hit that it wasn’t, but I thought it was a touch concerning on the perception front. Perhaps we can hear back from Heather on this point. I took a chance and listened to other tunes by Heather as well, and I’m mostly impressed overall.
