Odds Lane – Featured Artist

Odds LaneOdds Lane is one of those rock groups that lives under the radar. The band is a duo from St. Louis, MO, that have been playing music together for around 30 years, and they’re really good at what they do.

Full disclosure: 10 years ago I played with these guys myself and they have left a lifelong impression on my musical life. Doug Byrkit and Brian Zielie have been musical partners for a lifetime. When I say that, I mean these guys have been playing together for 30+ years;)

Odds Lane

When I was playing with them in a half original/half cover band called The Breakers, I was always amazed at how easy it was to work with the duo. Watching THEM work together was a whole other experience. I’ve played with so many bands in my almost 30 year career I have to sit down and think about the list. To come up with EVERY band I’ve ever played with…well, it’s a long one. I remember meeting Doug when he was subbing on bass for a band I was already in. Immediately I was hooked on his playing style. A short while later he was asking me to play with his band Hip Check. I obliged and the rest is history which brings us to this feature.

Whatever they’re doing is working for them. They haven’t made millions yet, but have a growing list of accomplishments any indie band would drool over. TV placements, awards, pro bono recording opportunities and fully backed label productions bring us to why they are the featured artist. They’ve just released a new album and it’s their best ever.

Odds Lane just released “Last Night On Cherokee” which can be found just about anywhere you get your music. As Doug mentions in the interview, they took a more stripped down approach to Last Night than previous recordings. “Super Producing” each song was what they had done in the past, and they decided this time they were going to strip down to their undies pretty much.

The entire record was recorded by Doug and Brian and it shows. They are both extremely creative and I am happy to see they had a chance to go into a real recording studio with a vision and a budget and had the time to do it. It’s been a long time coming. I encourage you to visit the Odds Lane Website and learn even more about them. If indie blues rock is your thing then stop right now and go go go!! Listen, download and share their music! As always thank you for reading and SUPPORT INDIE MUSIC!
