Phillip Broussard is a guitarist that is making music post-military, and he has a new song out “Just Wanna Believe”. Phillip has been making music since the age of 15 and has played guitar just about every day since. Fans of John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson will enjoy his music instantly. This guy has some great music and I’m excited to tell you about it.
Phillip Broussard – Just Wanna Believe
His new single “Just Wanna Believe” is a soft-spoken guitar-based ballad. Everything sounds cleanly placed. Guitars are in tune, he has a nice voice and it has some memorable lyrics. I think Phillip has a great thing going for him, however, I think he can do better. Here is what I mean…
“Just Wanna Believe” is simple, yes. But, I think it could be produced just a little bit more to take it over the edge of simple and into greatness. I appreciate the straightforward nature of the song, but with just the right ear candy I think Phillip has a hit on his hands. His voice is good but sounds a little bland here and there. He’s not out of tune or anything but I think he could surely inject some more emotion into his delivery. Dave and I speak about this often when reviewing bands on Indie Music LIVE…what feels over-emotional for the singer is usually received well by the listener.
Now, I don’t want my constructive critique to be a sign that I don’t like his music because I most definitely do. Phillip has huge potential and I’m excited to hear what he has coming next. I also sincerely appreciate his service in the military and also think that maybe he should consider writing some music about that experience, if he can take himself back there. Phillip is just starting his life over after the military and his music is keeping him going. I think he is well on his way to chiseling out a little corner in the music industry that he can own.
