Indie Country is a genre of music that prides itself on its separation from mainstream pop and rock country. This genre of music is different than traditional Country as well, and is a nice refresher. Indie Music seems to attempt at grabbing the roots of country, while adding a modern perspective on the old sound. Folk, blue-grass, southern country and rock, all come to a head in the genre and it can often be a great sound. Indie country has a garage band feel at times, but can also include album studio production, making it very popular among new music enthusiasts.

Indie Country – Calling All Genres…

While pop country has annoyed many fans with its repetitive choruses and auto tune verses, indie country takes back its pride by staying original and fresh. The sound is very unique, and all around pleasurable. Its fun to listen to, and is a great addition to most environments. From slow and melodic, to fast and upbeat, this genre can knock your socks off or even relax you to sleep. This original sound is a nice mixture between country and rock as well, and features gut busting solos and ballads that can move you to tears; sad and somber to rockin and rollin. Any music enthusiast can lend an ear to indie country, and be shocked and satisfied with the noises they’re hearing. It’s also a fast rising genre at Indie Music Plus…

The Mood Kings - Texarkana

The Mood Kings – Texarkana – Review

The Mood Kings are a band that needs to come out with more music. I can’t believe it’s been almost 18 months since we’ve reviewed them on the IMP website! We have played them on Indie Music LIVE too and almost had them as a featured artist once. The band is good. I mean really […]

Lost Lakes – Featured Artist

Lost Lakes music coming soon… These talented gents are releasing a new self-titled album on March 3 and it’s going to be worth a listen. Oh and it’ll be on vinyl too! The album is completely self-produced and even engineered by Paul. In my opinion, these songs are some of the best self-produced I’ve heard […]

Freudz Couch – Darkness

And…once again…ladies and gentlemen…Freudz Couch! The band is back with a new single “Darkness.” The band has been on a comeback kick lately after releasing their Led Zeppelin-flavored “Martha” last year after a 15-year break. I appreciate what the band is doing by making a comeback. That means they must have had some unforgettable fun the […]

Lost Lakes – Give Up The Ghost – Single Review

These guys are amazing. Their bio says the project is a collaboration between Corey Mathew Hart and Paul Mitch. The two apparently met during a songwriting competition held by a local radio station. I suppose these two songwriters were meant to be set up on a musical “blind date”, and that’s how it should be […]

Freudz Couch – Martha – Review

When I took a look at their Facebook page it said they were founded in 1993. That’s pretty much all the information I could find at the time. So, I was like, hmm…ok. Maybe someone is reviving a band they formed years back. I liked the band so much that we played the Freudz Couch song […]

Gideon’s Daughter – Review

Gideon’s Daughter (founded by married couple Brad and Lisa Petit) is best described as an Experimental Americana group out of Wenatchee, WA. They list their influences as Cyndi Lauper, Bon Iver, The Civil Wars, Radiohead, The Beatles, Dave Brubeck, and Phish. With those influences how could you not take a listen? This thoughtfully artistic group is […]

The Sixth Generation

The Sixth Generation – Review

The Sixth Generation is a band based out of Niles, Michigan. The band has been around for 50 years, but took a very long “break” from 1970-2011. There haven’t necessarily been any world tours but they’re still making music which is more than can be said for most bands that were formed in 1966. The […]

Jour Majesty – Album Review

It does not take long to realize that Jour Majesty has something special going. These days, many bands in the country-pop genre seem formulaic and repetitive, with each song a similar variation of singular theme. Not so with Jour Majesty (JM). Although there is a distinctive sound common to all their compositions, partially due to […]
