610 – Life With The Czar – Review

610 is Anthony Lipira. Wow, I just had major Deja Vu…almost like I’m said that before. Well, it’s because I have. 610 has been consistently releasing new music for years now. We’ve reviewed his music here, here and, here. I think that if you check the previous reviews we have written about him you’ll find that Anthony has grown over the years, a lot In fact. I think “Life With The Czar” is one of his best overall releases yet.

610

I must say that one of my favorite things about 610 is his ability to take constructive criticism. He’s grown tons over the years as a songwriter, producer, and musician. I am particularly fond of how he is progressing as a producer (or with his producer). There are some highlights on this new EP that show major growth as an artist. He’s starting to really dial in his guitar sounds and he’s been using some tighter drum loops that are helping the grooves. So, let’s dig deeper with a few of the tunes…

“Livin’ In The Walkin’ Dead” is first up. Anthony did a great job with the acoustic guitar sounds on this one. The loops that carry the beat lay right in there too. I think this is one of the areas that Anthony has improved on the most. It certainly doesn’t sound like he’s recording on a 4 track anymore! The vocals are clear and the melody is catchy. If I had anything to critique on this one I would say a catchy bass track might help spice it up a little. Also, the drum loops could be edited a bit to cause some variation in the groove. Otherwise, great tune!

“Feeling Like A Czar” has a cool underground sound when it starts out. When the rest of the instruments come in tho the soundscape is a little rough on the ears. There are drum loops again but they’re not quite as tight as the last song. Also, the vocals are way out in front and take over the whole track. I think this one could use a rework. But hey, I’m just one guy with two ears what do you think?

“Waiting For Madness” adds some keyboards. The vibe of the song is AC radio with a fairly typical chord structure. Again, Anthony is getting much better at the production side of things! Keyboards, guitars….drum loops! This tune also has some interesting arranging. I appreciate Anthony’s vocal style but I think that sometimes the notes are just a little too pitchy for my tastes. I’m going to have to say once again that some of his melodies and even his delivery need some work. Some of his delivery is artistic but unfortunately, some of it is just out of key.

“You Know It’s You” is a little more interesting in the way of arrangement as in the middle of the song it changes completely. I think I like the second section the best. It’s pretty groovy and would probably make for a good song in and of itself. Then, the song shifts again into a 70s type of guitar solo. I’m starting to get a little lost in this song, to be honest. I’m not sure how the three sections fit together but hey it’s art man!

Overall I think there has been some big improvement once again by 610. Like I mentioned before he’s been releasing music consistently for years so if you’re into supporting indie musicians I’m sure he’d welcome you to! Make sure to visit his website at here to find out more!
