Gaya Police – Flying To See Ya – Review

Gaya PoliceGaya Police is a side project of the band Saffron Hearts. We’ve had the pleasure of reviewing them in the past here on Indie Music PLUS. This time the music was created by Dan Jamkinsun (music/production) and Lina Mitsuki (vocals/lyrics). It is inspired by the Bodhgaya city vibe in India where 2500 years ago historical Buddha Shakyamuni reached enlightenment. Their music brings the message of freedom and love and is a unity of musicians with an open mind and heart. Gaya Police a project about Freedom and State of Mind with a Dub, Reggae, Hypnotic flavor based in Universe.

Gaya Police – Flying To See Ya

The story behind this duo is quite amazing and I’m digging it. I never realized the international influence that the reggae/dub style has had until I started Indie Music Plus over 5 years ago. Gaya Police represent this genre very well. Lina’s voice and Dan’s production style go a long way and complement each other extremely well. I really enjoy the psychedelic element too. Reggae music is a thin lane to travel, and I think it’s cool how Gaya Police mix the electronica and even some slight jazz vibes into the mix.

If I have to be honest one of the things I would critique about this song is it is sort of monotone. I enjoy the steady beat and groove but I would also appreciate some varied chord progressions or a breakdown. You know, something different to spice it up. I understand, Reggae doesn’t change a whole lot from song to song. It’s a basic groove with basic changes and it’s more about the message and the vibe than the actual virtuosity of the musicians.

The Gaya Police venture is pleasing to the ear and I hope they continue for sure. If you’re looking for some indie Reggae from India then look no further! Wow, I never thought I’d say that but it’s cool!
