Jake Henniger – In Tune – Review

Jake Henniger - In TuneWe’ve written a few reviews on Jake Henniger’s music in the past and now it’s time to check out his latest single “In Tune”. There’s not much information about Jake on the internet, but I believe he’s a college student that plays guitar and writes music on the side. He has tremendous support from his father who normally submits his music, and perhaps this is even a surprise to Jake!

Jake Henniger – In Tune

The song has become a weekly thing on Jangle Radio over the past year. With this song, Jake breaks away from his progressive writing style to present an Indie-Blues-Country sound that although an instrumental, one can easily put their own lyrics and melody over to fit their liking. As with all of Jake’s music he has written, he was the producer and plays all instruments on “In Tune.” Jake has a nice feel for the guitar and gets some nice muted tones as usual.

“In Tune” starts out as a free and bluesy solo in the style of John Mayer and even some Big Head Todd. As the tune builds, drums come in and solidify the overall groove and the instrumental runs its course. I can’t tell if the drums are programmed or real, but they add a nice ambiance that the listener will enjoy.

Jake displays some nice muted finger-picking and solid technique, but “In Tune” and a few of Jake’s other songs I’d really classify as demos. That is the real story here to me…where does he go next? If he’s going full on Kenny Wayne Shepherd, I’d say some more refinement is still needed, and of course a backing band. If he’s looking to join another band, then he has a killer catalog that showcases his skill. Perhaps he’ll stop by at Indie Music LIVE and let us know!
