Kinship – Featured Artist

KinshipKinship is a duo of brothers making amazing music. When I received a submission from Australia and Michael, I was instantly impressed with what they had to offer. The guys are a refreshing yet old school hip-hop duo who have been making music for a long time together and don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. At this point in their careers they are simply looking to provide entertainment.

They explain in our interview below that they were never comfortable making gangsta rap but prefer to call themselves “conscious rap.” This is exactly why I am attracted to what they are doing. It’s an extremely high quality product with thoughtful lyrics and a strong message. For example, the tune we preview in the episode below “Love You Like That” takes an honest look at domestic abuse. Not only is the message to the point, but the uniquely creative delivery of the music trumps so many other indie artists these days. Simply put, people need to make note of Kinship.

The amount of thought that these guys put behind their music is rare these days in hip hop. Trust me, I get tons of submissions every month. And yes, I do have flavors I like more than others, but overall Kinship is a rare duo. The guys came of age around the ’80s/’90s golden age of hip-hop. Those influences are definitely shining thru and in my opinion it’s going to come back huge just like hair bands and bell bottoms!

To add to the pile of intelligence, Australia makes some good points in the Deeper w/ Dave segment about aspiring to be more than just a rapper. He says that their father always instilled in them to think bigger than others. I’m curious to see what you think about Kinship. Get in touch with them on social media and let them know that you heard their music here on Indie Music Plus! As always, thank you for reading and continuing to support indie music of all genres!
