Matt Westin – Hey Bro – Review

Matt Westin - Hey BroMatt Westin is a country music artist that we’ve reviewed a few times over the past few years here and here. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – country music is not my personal forte. I have huge respect though for the artists that keep it real if you will, and I’m not big into new arena country that mixes pop and rap and stuff. I think that’s why I like Matt Westin so much, he’s authentic. Also, he’s grown on me over the years. He has some great country tunes regardless of what genre you tag them!

Matt Westin – Hey Bro

“Hey Bro” is his newest effort and I’m about to add it to my Spotify playlist right now! Hey, I said he’s authentic. His voice is what I feel true country should sound like. In “Hey Bro” he doesn’t mess around with getting to the nitty-gritty. I like the intro and the first verse, but you don’t have to wait for that ever-important hook and chorus. Some artists make you wait for it and that’s cool, but sometimes you need to come out kickin’ ass and let everyone know what they’ll be humming in their heads later.

Another thing I always appreciate about Matt’s music is that he doesn’t sacrifice quality. I’m not a huge fan of lyric videos, but a man has to do what a man has to do…and YouTube tagging of course helps in the search engines. On the sonic side of things he’s always point on. I don’t know who his engineer/producer is, but I wouldn’t give them up! I would guess that a huge part of Matt’s sound has to do with who he’s working with in the studio. I think out of the last few tunes Matt has released, this is probably his best so far. I know singles are what artists are putting out now, but I think it’s time for Matt to come out with a full length. Maybe I’m wrong, what do you think?
