If you’ve been around the Indie Music Plus scene for a while then you’ve heard the name B-Eazy (Be Eazy). He’s been gracing us with his presence for nearly as long as Indie Music Plus has been a thing. He first joined us around episode 34 on Indie Music LIVE! and the rest is history. He’s one of the few indie artists we’ve been in touch with from those days that is still creating.
B-Eazy – The Stoner CHRONICles
B-Eazy has ALWAYS stood out to me as not only an individual but an artist. I have a strong feeling that he’s had a vision of what he wants to do for much longer than he’s been releasing music. Over the years he’s grown and matured so much. His newest release “The Stoner CHRONICles” is just an example.
One of the first things that stand out to me is the production quality has increased dramatically. In particular, the tracks seem to match the vocals and hooks better than in past works. I’m just a guy raised in Indiana and not that big into hip hop and rap. But, I do know quality, especially in the sonic realms. B-Eazy has either gotten better at writing around pre-produced tracks or he’s been working with a producer to fit the tracks around his raps. Either way, what he’s doing lately is working and producing more coherent songs rather than just raps.
My one minor qualm with this project is that some of the vocals are a little too raw for my taste. Some of the vocals pop a little too much and sound like they need some more compression. Don’t get me wrong, B-Eazy kills all of his vocals. I’m speaking more on the engineering side. My ears need more production, more ear candy. These tracks are sometimes a little too raw sounding and could use some beefing up and maybe a stack or two. Other than that tho, these tracks are quite satisfying.
Just in case you don’t know, B-Eazy smokes weed. “The Smoker’s Section” is for smokers smoking for 10 years or more. This track is super entertaining. Cheech & Chong fans and the like will enjoy the movie snippets and all the references in the song. I know I did. The track is amazing too. There are TONS of rappers that talk about B-Eazy. He’s just better than most of them.
“The Cancer & The Taurus” is another stand-out track. It’s interesting how B-Eazy weaves the ideas of Cancer (the disease), Cancer (the astrological symbol), and Taurus (the car) with Taurus (the astrological symbol). All in one flow. THIS is why I love B-Eazy. Also, I think the vocals sound great on this one. They lay in the production perfectly.
“Red Solo Cup” is a party track. Red solo cups always make people feel good. This track will do so as well. My head bobs every time I listen to it. Moving on… in all honesty “Here We Are” isn’t my favorite track. Some of the feature vocals are distorted and rough on the ear. See my previous statement about the vocal engineering. “The Cancer & The Taurus” and “Red Solo Cup however are, in my opinion, the strongest tracks on the entire album.
It’s been exciting to see B-Eazy grow over the years. I’m even more excited to keep watching and see what happens next. If he continues to be as consistent as he has been in the past then I would expect him to be releasing more music soon. Until then tho, feast your ears on “The Stoner CHRONICles” and let us know what you think! Also, check out his previous releases online.
