The Morning Sea – Mal De Mer – Single Review

Morning Sea

I love The Morning Sea and they know it! Self described as “Gotham Americana” with a trombone player, this band is truly a breath of fresh air and they deserve to be heard…much more than they are in fact. At first look it appears as if their Soundcloud page is a little lonely. Their album has been out for 2 months and it seems that they need some more listeners, and THEY ARE WORTH THE LISTEN!

The Morning Sea sounds like they have worked with some amazing producers for their latest release Mal De Mer. I had a chance to speak with them and it turns out they did…themselves! Self produced, these guys has a vision for not only their music but for their band. Formed just a few short years ago, this new project is their second release.

The title track starts out very mellow and the vocals of Adam Cohen sound like his voice and this song were meant to be together. Good thing because Adam writes most of the lyrics. He says his inspirations vary and his songs can be just about anything.

The Morning Sea – Mal De Mer

Around 2:20 “Mal De Mer” gets moving a bit more, but throughout the tune there is nothing but emotion. The band does an excellent job at providing a soundscape that is extremely pleasing to the ear. Piano carries the tune, but ever so lightly underneath the acoustic guitar and vocals of Cohen.

The members of the band play in other bands all around the NYC area as well, so if you live in that area I recommend hooking up with any one of these guys on a night they are gigging out. You can find them on Facebook and Twitter.
