YouPeopl. No, I didn’t forget the “E” on the end. In fact, we never found out in the interview why they did leave it off. Well, introducing our most recent featured artist You Peopl. Full disclosure, I’ve known the artist behind the madness since 1998 and he is amazing. Yes, I know I may be biased, but seriously this guy is what I call the “Rock God” of southern Illinois even tho he now resides in a suburb of St. Louis, MO.
YouPeopl – Glorious Dissonance
Chan Maurice Evans is a musician that has been gigging around the Southern Illinois/St. Louis area for a long time. If you went just by looks you may be thinking you’re going to hear a new hip hop artist. WRONG, Chan is a rock god. And he’s not a rock god in the sense that he is selling millions of records, but more by the way he handles his music. Chan subbed on bass when I played in a group that mixed funk, hip hop and jazz back in 2000 and he filled the slot perfectly. Then, I started hanging out with him and heard him play with HIS band(s) which always leaned towards the rock side of things.
When I think of Chan Maurice Evans I can’t help but feel warm and fuzzy. He is probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and super talented. He’s a multi-instrumentalist that has finally taken the leap into writing and producing more of his own music. That’s where YouPeopl comes in, and the band is just getting started. Check out the interview above to learn more and get deeper w/ Dave as he asks Chan more about his music and his life. Chan is accompanied by band-mate Brandon and they discuss how they are developing their sound. Check it out and let YouPeopl know what YOU think of their music! As always thank you for reading and supporting independent music!
